About y la Familia
The Web Site
y la Familia website was launched on August 1, 2002 and is dedicated to the descendants of Florencio Rivera Maldonado with the goal of connecting family and friends worldwide, promoting and building family tradition, and providing a platform for sharing family news and history.
One objective of this website is to discover 'lost' family members. The internet is a great medium for searching available information that might give clues to one's background and family history. And so, it is with this in mind that we publicize our family's rich history so that some day a 'lost' family member may find their way to us.
The Newsletter
The family newsletter, y la Famila, was started by Norma (Garcia) Pettit in 1996. After more than one decade, she continues to publish the newsletter six times a year at her cost, relying only on donations to help defray the ever increasing costs of publishing. The objective of the newsletters is to reach out to family members, sharing current family news and sharing her knowledge of the family's rich history as gathered from years of research that included interviewing family members, searching the internet, investigating old records kept by the Puerto Rican government and old baptismal records kept by local churches, which were considered more accurate than the government records.
